We are a
homeschooling family in Central Florida with a passion for life
science. Some of our particular interests are anatomy, herpetology
(reptiles and amphibians) and marine biology (aquatic animals).
Among our household zoo resides pairs of breeding Bearded
Dragons and corn snakes, so we offer babies for sale each summer.
Classes are taught
by Laura Roberts, an expert at teaching elementary animal
science with 20 years of animal handling experience. She originally attended the University of Florida
as an Animal Science major with an emphasis on pre-veterinary
studies. Meanwhile she worked as a veterinary assistant
and medical research assistant, volunteering in Equine
Neonatology in the evenings. Later, she transferred to the
University of Central Florida where she graduated with a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Cardiopulmonary Sciences. Using
her science background, she began teaching elementary and middle
school science classes to homeschoolers and discovered a true
love. She is currently enrolled in Whitefield Theological
Seminary working toward her Masters degree in Christian
Education, learning many ways to improve the methods for
teaching science. She has been trained as a Project Wild
educator by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission as well as
working with that entity to remain permitted to own captive
wildlife. She has also volunteered with 4H and the Central
Florida Zoo, always seeking more knowledge about the world we
live in to share with her students.
Zoo Mom Science is
a true family business. Bruce helps with packaging and
technical support, and the girls help with the zoo.
Maintaining the animals and assisting during parties and classes
is part of their education as budding biologists. In
addition, Brittany is a member of the Central Florida Zoo's Teen
Team, volunteering as a liaison between the public and the
animal ambassadors. All of
us are members of the Central Florida Herpetological Society and
attend their meetings regularly as part of our continuing
education. |
